June 12, 1898, it was on this day when the Philippines declared its independence from Spain after more than three centuries of colonial rule. Freedom is not free. Many lives were risk and surrendered. Those were the true heroes who showed courage and bravery in order to raise our flag. As the last line of the National Anthem convey, Filipinos are ready to sacrifice their lives just to attain the freedom we deserve. Annual commemoration of the Philippine Independence should be the time to give thanks and honor to those who fought for our freedom being savored today.
It has been more than a century that the Philippines is celebrating its independence. I bet no one of today’s generation can ever withstand the heroic deeds exhibited by our forefathers. Let us take in to ourselves the hardships of our Filipino heroes faced. Let us not neglect the duties to our country for we are responsible for our freedom. We should know our limitations and never abuse this freedom. Let us be patriotic and be inspired by our heroic ancestors, who freed us from the land of the mourning.
